The Capitol Middle School garden began in September 2011. The garden could not have been possible without the many community partners working together: Better Baton RougeStar Hill ChurchLouisiana Delta Service CorpsLamar CorporationSlow Food Baton RougeCity YearDiplomas NowNeighbors Federal Credit UnionLSU Ag CenterCPEXClegg’s NurseryMarcello’s Restaurant, as well as countless community members.

Slow Food Baton Rouge’s two Louisiana Delta Service Corps volunteers, Grant and Allison Guidroz, have been vital for the implementation of the garden. Grant and Allison designed the garden, organized community volunteers for the build days, and are working with the Home Living teacher at Capitol to fully integrate the garden into her classroom – planting, harvesting, preparing and eating the fresh garden produce.
