Dinner in the Field 2018
April 15th at the James Grace House
It's that time of year again for Baton Rouge's premiere farm-to-table fundraising event, Dinner in the Field! Slow Food Baton Rouge (SFBR) will again hold our event at The James Grace House in Plaquemine, La. to host a showcase of culinary arts, local farms, and food traditions. This year, the dinner will have a theme using local foods. “This is the first year that Slow Food Baton Rouge has decided to have an Asian theme for the Dinner in the Field” said Sean “Poochy” Rivera a SFBR Board Member. Since its inception in 2011 this farm to table fundraiser will continue to feature locally grown or caught foods selected and prepared by area chefs.
The Dinner in the Field is a fundraising event for Slow Food Baton Rouge. This event will be held rain or shine as there is cover in the barn on the property. A cocktail 90 (90 minutes instead of a boring old hour) will begin at 4 p.m. with live music by Ben Bell and The Stardust Floor. Appetizers at the Cocktail 90 are followed by a six-course dinner accompanied by choice wines. The non-assigned seated dinner begins promptly at 6 p.m. For a group of eight that would like a more intimate experience with chefs, we will offer a Chefs Table. Dinner in the Field is a benefit with proceeds dedicated entirely to Baton Rouge's only comprehensive farm to school program Greauxing Healthy Baton Rouge (GHBR). GHBR programming is currently at Dufrocq Elementary School and also supporting efforts at other area schools. “We are in our fifth year providing a gardening program with 2 East Baton Rouge Parish Schools. The Dinner in the Field proceeds are crucial for our efforts” said Cheryl Giles, Board Member and gardening coordinator.
