Slow Food Baton Rouge seeks to transform our food and farming system through the power of everyday people.
Slow Food Baton Rouge is a chapter of Slow Food USA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and a part of the international Slow Food community.
Slow Food USA’s mission is to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system. Through a network of local chapters it seeks to reconnect Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils and waters that produce our food. It also works to inspire a transformation in food policy, production practices and market forces so that they ensure equity, sustainability and quality in the food we eat.
Slow Food envisions a world in which people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet.
Slow Food promotes food that is good, clean and fair for all:
- Good - a fresh, flavorful seasonal diet that satisfies the senses and is part of our local culture
- Clean - food production and consumption that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or health
- Fair - accessible price for consumers and fair conditions and success for small-scale producers
